Class of 2009 - 5th Graders' Tile Self Portraits

For the 2nd year, 5th graders have created self portraits glazed on ceramic tiles permanently installed as an annual alumni project. For years to come,  each alumnus can return to view their personal signature on the walls of Chaffee Trail. Parents and friends, please look for this collection of portraits when you visit us.

Ok, so I've had similar ideas with the tile, but I don't have any experience with working on tile.

What was the approximate cost? How did you get them installed?

Thanks,

I purchased the glaze from Atlantic Beach Pottery the first year and bought enough to last for a couple of years. I still have enough for next year - that would be year 3. I also bought the bisque tiles from them. Let me look a my records to determine the cost for one year. Actually, we should get together and talk about it. I'll be up at my school, Chaffee Trail most of July as i am working on a mural. That way you can see the mural yourself and I can explain the procedure.

Actually, I mean you can see the tile mural yourself. If you stick around too long I'll put you to work on the painted mural!

That sounds good. I can meet you anytime on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I don't mind helping, I know I could have used help when I painted my murals. Let me know in July when you will be up there and I'll swing by.

Did you ever get a chance to see my murals?

Also let me know about the cost...

I haven't seen your murals. Can you email pictures for me. I'm always interested in murals. When I was at RL Brown, I painted 2 very large murals for our magnet program. I was actually paid for those as there was substantial grant $$$. For my current mural project the only thing my school can pay for is my paint. It is defiantly a labor of love. If you are interested, I can email the pics of the RLB murals.

These look wonderful! I need to come up with a 5th grade thing to do. I think leaving their mark on the wall, or whereever, is a great idea.
